Cotswold Vale TN

Synopsis:

We started in 1995 reading the Gazette which predominantly covers the Dursley, Wotton under Edge and Berkeley areas of Gloucestershire including Charfield, Uley, Hawkesbury Upton, Coaley and Kingswood.

We provide a weekly CD of the paper, which is now published on a Thursday, and we record on a Friday morning, sending out over 50 CDs by lunch time on Friday.  We went over to CDs in 2006 and found the transition went very smoothly.  We also put the recording onto our web site  www.cvtn.org.uk and we know at least one of our listeners used that format alone.

Four times a year we produce a "magazine" CD called Kaleidoscope with readings, poem, interviews of local personalities, nature notes and other such articles.  This is very popular with our listeners.  We have also produced a few "specials" where our enthusiastic amateur journalists go out and interview prominent local people who are involved in a particular project.  We have covered the local Electric Cinema project of Wotton under Edge and the building of the brand new state of the art comprehensive school in Dursley .

We also run a Listeners' Volunteer Support Group whereby each listener is allocated a volunteer.  If we notice the pouch return is faltering they can find out if there is a problem that we can help them with.

We have around 50 volunteers and a committee of 8.

To support our funds we record 'Keynotes' for Stroud District Council tennants and hold a least 2 local collections a year.  We also provide teas at Sunday Concerts which raises over £200.00.
