Talk Lochaber

Synopsis:

Talk Lochaber is a registered charity providing a Talking Newspaper for the visually and reading impaired in the local Lochaber area.  Run totally by volunteers this service started in 1999 and  the 400th Edition was recorded in May 2010.  Recordings are done on a Thursday evening at 7.00p.m. in our studio in Fort William.  Currently we have 42 Listeners who receive a recording each week.

Articles are drawn from the Lochaber News, Lochaber Life, De Tha Dol, Westword and occasionally additional items from Scottish Memories.

We also produce Magazine Tapes and Public Information recordings for various agencies, including the NHS and would like to expand our services to include other public services according to Listeners' requirements.

We have recently changed to digitally recording onto USB sticks which has greatly improved the quality of the recordings we produce.  Each listener was provided  with a Boombox  for a  peppercorn cost on which to play the USB sticks.

Currently we have a pool of 36 Volunteers who cover all positions of Editors, Readers, Technicians and Admin. assisitants.

If anyone is interested in joining our team or would like more information or if you know of an individual who might benefit from receiving the service please contact us.
